Telephon card

A telephone card is a card (with an electronic chip) which can be used for calls from suitable public phones. On the memory chip a credit is loaded for the phone calls.

SIM card:

The SIM card (subscriber identity modules) is a card with electonic chip which is pocketed in a mobile phone and serves for the identification of the user in the net. Besides, the SIM shows the second unity of the mobile station in the GSM. The SIM is a small processor chip with memory. Usually in the ID-000-format.

It is protected against unauthorized use by a changeable PIN. The mobile epiquement (usually the moblie phone) is assignned to a user by the SIM. He becomes authentified. For these purposes confidential numbers and algotithms are stored on the SIM. Afterwards these also serve for encoding of the liguisic and signalisation data (ciphering).

If the PIN is wrong typed three times in succession, the SIM map is automatically closed. To unlock it again, the PUK (personal unblocking key) is necessary. The PUK can be typed in ten times in succession wrong, before the SIM card is closed finally. In addition, the SIM serves for the memory of temporary, net related data and preferential and closed nets. A phone book, a notebook and memory can be integrated in the SIM for short message service communication (SMS) and memories of the telephone numbers called last.

The SIM card is delivered in the big ID 1 format. The smaller ID-000 part can be quarried out.

GSM

The worldwide system for mobile communications (GSM) is a standard for full - digital mobile radio nets which is used primarily for telephony, but also for management-provided and parcel-provided data transfer as well as short communication (short messages). It is the first standard of the so-called second generation (2G) as a successor of the analogous systems of the first generation and is the worldwide mostly widespread moblile radio standard. GSM was created with the prupose to offer a moblie phone system which permitted to paricipants a European-wide mobility and offered with ISDN orcustomary analogous telephone networks compatible linguistic services.

UMTS

Universally mobile telecommunications system, better known under the abbreviation UMTS, stands for the mobile radio standard of the third generation (3G) with which clearly higher data transfer rates than with the GSM standard are possible. The quick data transfer and the independence by mobiliy are the corner pillars of the third generation. The concrete advantages lie in the totally new application possibilities.
