SIM card:
The SIM card (subscriber identity modules) is a card with electonic chip which is pocketed in a mobile phone and serves for the identification of the user in the net. Besides, the SIM shows the second unity of the mobile station in the GSM. The SIM is a small processor chip with memory. Usually in the ID-000-format.
It is protected against unauthorized use by a changeable PIN. The mobile epiquement (usually the moblie phone) is assignned to a user by the SIM. He becomes authentified. For these purposes confidential numbers and algotithms are stored on the SIM. Afterwards these also serve for encoding of the liguisic and signalisation data (ciphering).
If the PIN is wrong typed three times in succession, the SIM map is automatically closed. To unlock it again, the PUK (personal unblocking key) is necessary. The PUK can be typed in ten times in succession wrong, before the SIM card is closed finally. In addition, the SIM serves for the memory of temporary, net related data and preferential and closed nets. A phone book, a notebook and memory can be integrated in the SIM for short message service communication (SMS) and memories of the telephone numbers called last.
The SIM card is delivered in the big ID 1 format. The smaller ID-000 part can be quarried out.
